My Mission
At Englishplus, I aim to provide a transformative English learning experience through immersion in nature and culture. Together we explore the great outdoors on my doorstep, pay a visit to historical sites in the vicinity, take a look at modern art at Tate St Ives, and much more.
All the while we are 'walking & talking'. Using the language in situ is sure to improve your confidence! The best bit: you'll have a holiday with lasting memories to look back on.
Language learning is a journey
My approach to language teaching centres on real-life experiences and individualized attention.
From language student to language teacher – I know where you’re coming from!
I too, once started off with a holiday course, followed by my decision to spend an entire year in the country, working and learning. So, I arrived in London one fine April day in 1986 from Wuppertal in Germany, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Nowadays I can look back on a career that is full of variety - "it's the spice of life" they say! As fate would have it, while working as bilingual PA in London, I met Kenny. I upped sticks and joined him in St Ives, Cornwall to run a B&B right next to Porthmeor Beach. This artistic place inspired me so much so that I enrolled at Falmouth College of Arts, first on an art & design course followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Culture. It enabled me to then work in marketing and PR in sectors like the arts, education, and graphic design, before finally going it alone as a freelance translator, proofreader, and copywriter.
In 2013 I set up Englishplus to teach English by the seaside and to finally make use of my TEFL* qualification, gained in 1992.
